A great addition to the club in the last couple years not only a great coaching resource, but has now become famous for its Sunday morning bacon rolls and coffee thanks to dedicated parents.

Normal Coaching Times

Under 8' and 10's - 10.00 am till 11.30 Sunday mornings

Under 12's ,14's and U16's  - 10.00 am till 11.30 am Sunday mornings

These times may change depending on numbers of colts in each age group.

Under 18's train on Wednesday evenings between 8.00 pm and 9.30 pm with the adults.

Our older colts are encouraged to 'play up' in the senior matches on Saturdays, and join in the adult training sessions held each Wednesday evening.

If you are new and thinking of coming down please contact the colts chairman to make sure there is training on that day, as we do have matches and times can change.

Want to have a go, but not sure?

We welcome any children from 5 or 6 year old upwards, and invite all to come and "have a go". We offer a free, without obligation, introduction period of 3 weeks for youngsters to come and see what's the game is all about and to see if they enjoy it. The essential equipment consists of trainers, shin-pads and a mouth guard; we will provide the stick and the fun. Parents are encouraged to stay and they can also help if they wish.

All our coaches are fully qualified hockey coaches and all are CRB checked and we have also signed up to English Hockey Boards code of ethics and behavior.

Please contact the Colts Chairman if you need any further information -

What do you need?

Sticks - These come in many different styles sizes and weights, a rough guide for length is the top of the stick should come up to the top of you hip bone, we do have sticks you can borrow to start with.

Shin Pads – Hockey shin pads are bigger than football ones and have protection for the ankle and upper shin.

Mouth guards – There are many different types, the most important thing is protection and comfort, follow the link for further advice http://www.dentalguide.co.uk/patient_guide/mouth-guards.html.

Trainers  – Ideally you should wear hockey astro shoes, these have been designed to play hockey on artificial pitches, and give good grip, protection and support.

Studded or blade football boots cannot be worn on many surfaces including our home pitch at Kings, however a good quality trainer with good grip can be used

If you are new to the games we will be happy to assist you with your choices

Playing Kit

Please note that all colts are required to play in club kit in matches – follow this link for details

We play in royal blue playing shirts, white shorts and royal blue socks, the girls normally wear navy blue shorts or skirts or skorts

For training we do ask the Colts that they make sure they have a drink and protection particularly against the cold and the rain - it is important as this is a winter sport that they are able to keep themselves warm and dry, beanies rather than hoods and caps and gloves in the winter are great as long as they can grip the stick correctly. Do not forget sun screen protection when appropriate.

The Game

Hockey is a great game with many tactical similarities to football, the rules of hockey are very similar to the rules of football except that players must use sticks instead of their feet to play the ball.  There are 11 players on a team made up of a Goalkeeper, Defenders, Midfielders and Attackers.  The only player on the field who is allowed to use their feet and hands as well as their stick is the goalkeeper.

Unfortunately hockey is not extensively taught in schools, which is a shame as many miss the opportunity to experience the joys of playing an exciting team sport, however, in an attempt to counter this we provide coaching in local schools, which includes running taster sessions and after school clubs.

We have for many years been closely involved in organising an annual local junior schools tournament, and we provide coaching on behalf of Surrey Heath Borough Council for the annual Surrey Youth Games. Where the hockey teams have won gold medals at every age group in the last few years.

Here at Camberley and Farnborough we want all our colts to enjoy their hockey and have fun. We encourage participation, teamwork, fair play and sportsmanship, we encourage all members to join in and play in the inter club matches.

Hockey has a system of "rolling substitutes" this is great for coaching during matches and it also ensures that all player's will have some part in the game. as a family club, parent's also play a big role in the club and we actively encourage them to get involved in anyway they can.

We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday mornings!!
