Men’s Club Training
Club training is on Wednesday nights at Kings
International School (Watchetts Rd)
Ladies training is 7:30 to 8:30. Men’s is from 8:30 to
9:30, BUT we always start at 8pm. Club/1st team coach, Andrew Minson*, believes
in fitness being part of drills and skills development. ‘If it’s
worth coming out, its worth putting the effort in.’
Training is varied from week to week with a focus on different skills each
week. The format and drills are varied, and there are plenty of touches of
the ball for all, to maximise interest and enjoyment. All standards are catered
for at training, though the firsts and highflying colts do necessarily get
more attention.
* Andrew Minson, originally from Brisbane, played National League hockey
with Southgate, is an Oxford Blue and prior to that played A-grade hockey
with the University of Queensland.
Men’s 1XI (Jan 23rd update)
Playing in the 12 team Surrey 1st XI division 1

Team Spirit:
Why bother turning up if the experience is not enjoyable? The spirit in the
team was fantastic for most of the season and resilient during hard times
later in the season. Attendance at training was high throughout, which
is a positive sign. Only the highest level teams can endure people not
enjoying the process, and no team can maximise their potential on the pitch
without the desire to work for each other. The 1st XI achieved a result
this year that was beyond what could have been achieved by the sum of the
parts.The Future?
Currently : The C and F Men's 1XI gives the opportunity to play in a reasonable
standard first XI without demanding attendance at training nor commitment
to 100% of the fixtures. The demands of work and family are understood.
A strong colts section ensures a steady stream of talented
teenagers and students into the 1XI, and these are balanced by older experienced
players who may have played at a higher level but want less traveling and
less commitment.
But what is our ambition? What is a realistic ambition?
In the short term we must ensure that we retain our Surrey Div 1 status -
ideally a little more comfortably. To achieve more than this would require
a significant step up in commitment and player strength.
Mens Seconds (May 22nd Update)
The mens second play in the top division of the Surrey Open Hockey League , "Men's 2nd XI Camberley's excellent post Christmas form continued and vital wins against Epsom, Old Reigatians and Addiscombe propelled us out of the relegation slots. Unfortunately three draws in games where we had led pulled us back into the drop zone and we went to the last game as one of five teams who could possibly go down. Oh, and we had to play Barnes who were at the top of the table needing a win to take the league title ..... not such a difficult match then! Despite going one behind we rallied to equalise in the second half and were holding on for the point we needed with fifteen minutes to go when disaster struck and we conceded to go 1-2 down. Throwing caution to the winds and playing with a sweeper on the right wing we forced two penalty corners but couldn't convert and a runaway goal 3 minutes from time sunk us. Things looked bad, we were down on goal difference (curse those draws .....) and a first season out of the top flight of the Surrey Open League beckoned until our reprieve - a league re-organisation meant one down instead of two and we live to fight another season ........... :o|) Captain Gary had triumphed against all the odds in November - we just need to start next season playing like we were at the end of this one So, that means a full pre-season training guys ...... Jackie's doing her level 2 coaching course and has offered a session or two for us. Have a good summer."
The Owls (April
14th Update)
At Camberley we run one social team (The Owls) and every year arranging fixtures is becoming increasingly difficult. Traditional fixtures are being eroded and the emergency fixtures bureau has closed.
The Four Counties Friendly ‘League’ - Organised by Camberley & Farnborough HC
Join now for 2006 / 7
- No Fixture organisation.
- No points
- Just friendly regular Hockey.
Is there a way of guaranteeing a full season of friendly fixtures? We know there is.
Along with like-minded clubs, we have set up a friendly ‘league’, which takes the grind out of fixture organisation. There are no points, no need to phone in results, no league positions, just friendly, regular, guaranteed hockey …... and socialising.
Are you a local or interested club ? We would like to offer you the opportunity to register the interest of your team and join us.
We currently have 14 teams who take advantage of the ‘social league’ and there is no limit on how many we can accommodate.
