After being associated with the junior section for over 22 years Martin is stepping down as Junior Chair. During his stewardship the junior section has grown from strength to strength and developed over the years from 60 to, last year, having 210!
The club now has a good infrastructure of coaches, parent helpers and volunteers to give our youngsters a safe and fun environment to play and improve their hockey skills.
Martin has been instrumental in promoting our pitch-side hubs, which has created a great, friendly atmosphere and a sense of belonging at our training and matches.
He feels the time is right to hand over the reins to someone new to take the section to the next level. Martin says, ‘It has been an absolute pleasure working the junior section over the years, and to see it where it is today gives me a great deal of pride. To see an under 10 go through the ranks and eventually play for our 1st team is testimony to the hard work of the players, the coaches and the volunteer helpers, and is very satisfying.’
Although Martin is stepping back from that role, we are thrilled to announce that he has now been appointed Club President so we will not be losing his knowledge and passion for the club.
We are delighted that Will Stephens has stepped forward to take over the reins from Martin. Will has worked as a coach through all the age groups over the last few years as well as the adult section. Following a long playing career he will be bring his experience, enthusiasm and drive to the role.
