Camberley and Farnborough Mixed Hockey

‘where serious hockey rarely features’

It’s fair to say in recent years Camberley and Farnborough HC has grown and as a consequence so has the demand for mixed hockey. Mixed hockey at the club is more an opportunity for everyone to socialise with the mild distraction of playing 70 minutes of hockey.  We don’t play in any leagues however play regular friendly matches throughout the season and are also entering the England Hockey Mixed Plate this year.

However, it is important to emphasise that mixed hockey is more about socialising and having fun than winning, although of course we aim to win, and did quite well last season in our friendly games and also on tour.

As mentioned, we also try and go on a few hockey tours each year. Last year we went to Holland over the Easter weekend where we camped in what was unfortunately one of the coldest winters in the last 50 years. Despite this, we managed to win the tournament and had a very good time despite this. We are looking at going back this season also however may consider a hostel as opposed to camping just in case!

The second tour was to Yateley Hockey festival which we try to attend every year unless this is rained off…

This year in particular was a special year as one of our members was getting married and so the previous captain decided fittingly to organise a night where some poorly fitted dresses should be worn by the men, and some slightly better fitted dresses by the ladies. The tour was a great success as it is every year and this time the weather was a scorching 30 degrees.

The aim with mixed hockey for me this season is to ensure we do as best we can in the National plate, whilst also keeping the social element alive with as many friendly matches as possible and also a few tours. I will look to also produce a fixtures list so we can plan matches a little better!
